About Frederikke Legaard

Frederikke Legaard is a Danish artist who works with a wide range of art forms. She talks about her poster herself:

"With my work, I try to let the hands show the extremely vulnerable position that girls and women on the run find themselves in. In a fleeing situation, you are left to the humanity and understanding of others. The meeting between hands is a vulnerable exchange. It can be both loving, helpful, embracing and accommodating. But hands can also represent a threat, a sadness, and to let go, push, forget, reject or cause harm.

Regardless of age or nationality, all girls and women on the run have one thing in common. They are all more likely to be exposed to abuse and discrimination because of their gender. Almost half of all women and girls are exposed to abuse in connection with their flight. With my contribution to this year's collection, I hope to be able to lend a helping hand to the girls and women who are currently on the run."
